Development Consultancy

For planning applications to succeed, planning legislation requires that all trees on and adjacent to potential sites are assessed and fully considered from the outset of the design process by a suitably qualified arboriculturalist.

As a minimum, Local Planning Authorities require compliance with the methodology set out in

‘British Standard 5837: 2012 Trees in relation to design, demolition and construction – Recommendations (BS 5837: 2012).

This sets out where arboricultural advice and support is required throughout the project from site feasibility through to final completion and aftercare.

We advocate and recommend that clients follow the British Standard process which will seek to achieve an arboriculturally acceptable and defensible design early on.  This will limit delays and redesign costs as the project progresses, minimise specialist construction methods and prevent conflict between good quality retained trees and construction operations.

Tree Maintenance Ltd’s consultants include an ex-Local Authority Tree Officer who can provide our clients with a valuable insight into Local Authority assessment rationale prior to submission.

We have decades of training, knowledge, and experience in both supporting our clients through the build process and successfully liaising with Local Authority Tree and Planning Officers.

Our consultants have the expertise to assist our clients from site acquisition through to final completion.

Typically the sequence will be:

  1. Tree Survey
  2. Tree Constraints Plan
  3. Advice to the design team
  4. Arboricultural Impact Assessment
  5. Arboricultural Method Statement and Tree Protection Plan
  6. Site monitoring during the construction phase

Tree Maintenance consultants include ex-Local Authority Tree Officers. This provides our clients with a valuable insight into Local Authority Assessment prior to submission and a wealth of knowledge and experience to achieve a successful outcome.

Trees provide many benefits which are valued by society. They are however large biological organisms, and tree owners in the UK are required by law to ensure they are safe.

What is a tree report?

A tree report is a generic term and relates to the assessment, analysis and reporting of specific issues in relation to the care, maintenance and management of trees.
